OpenAI boss Altman calls for strict AI regulation – but politicians are hesitant

Berlin, Brussels At the beginning of the week it was time again. The head of the company OpenAI, Sam Altman, turned to politicians with a new proposal to tame his technology. The company has developed the ChatGPT language model – an artificial intelligence (AI) that has been causing a stir for months. To put it very simply, she can analyze and write large texts.

Nobody, said Sam Altman in Abu Dhabi, wants to “destroy the world” with it. But artificial intelligence is a serious and existential threat to humanity. That is why there is a need for a supervisory authority modeled on the International Atomic Energy Agency.

It has been like this for months: AI entrepreneurs are using apocalyptic language to advocate regulation according to their wishes. Altman even threatened to withdraw from Europe, while Twitter and Tesla boss Elon Musik called for a development stop.
