Berlin The online retailer eBay increased its sales despite the increasing competition from stationary retail. Revenues increased in the third quarter by eleven percent to 2.5 billion dollars, as the US company announced on Wednesday after the market closed. That was above the expectations of analysts. For the current quarter, however, eBay is only expecting an increase in sales of between three and five percent. After the trading hours, the share fell significantly.

Income rose slightly from July to September to $ 591 million. Despite the ongoing vaccination campaigns around the world and stores that have reopened everywhere, more people bought on eBay and took part in auctions. The platform also benefited from the trend towards used or reprocessed goods.

Nevertheless, eBay is overshadowed by the world’s largest online retailer, Amazon, which gave an insight into the past quarter on Thursday. In addition, the online marketplace for self-made things, Etsy, competes with the company.
