OnePlus is going through a difficult time in the German market. The company faced a similar problem again, following the patent dispute it previously had with Nokia, which resulted in a sales ban that lasted about two years. This time, he has to cancel phone sales because of wireless communication technologies patents.
OnePlus stops sales in Germany due to patent dispute
OnePlus has once again been forced to halt phone sales in Germany due to an ongoing patent dispute. Wireless technologies developer InterDigital claims that OnePlus infringes some of its patents related to 5G and other core smartphone technologies.
This development comes after OnePlus resolved a similar patent dispute with Nokia and lifted a sales ban that lasted nearly two years. OnePlus stated in its statement that it values intellectual property rights and standard essential patents. However, InterDigital believes OnePlus should license its patent portfolio.
OnePlus said it would continue discussions with InterDigital to find a solution. However, he confirmed that he would stop selling the phone in Germany until this process was completed. The dispute between the two companies will also affect OnePlus’ newest flagship model, the OnePlus 13, which it plans to launch in the next few months.
During this period, other OnePlus products such as the OnePlus Pad 2, Buds Pro and Watch 2 will be available for purchase in Germany. However, those who want to buy the company’s smartphones will have to order from other European countries for now.
