NVIDIA graphics cards are getting smaller! Here’s why

NVIDIA announced its efforts and new plans to shrink large graphics cards in the PC gaming world. NVIDIA has launched a new initiative called “SFF-Ready Enthusiast GeForce Cards” to support small form factor (SFF) gaming PCs. But are these cards really small? Here are the details…

When information leaked last month said that NVIDIA would be pushing smaller gaming PCs, we all started dreaming of a small but powerful Nvidia GPU. We thought maybe we’d see something like AMD’s old R9 Nano card.

However, NVIDIA’s newly announced SFF-Ready cards are actually not that small. For example, even an RTX 4070 that is 2.5 slots thick, 304mm long and 151mm wide falls into this category. These dimensions are still quite large for many SFF cases.

NVIDIA will give GeForce graphics card owners a 3-month PC Game Pass subscription for free. Here are the details.

NVIDIA’s director of desktop products, Justin Walker, summarizes the purpose of this program with these words: “Leave this much (SFF-Ready) space in your case so you can fit a graphics card like a 4080 or 4070.” So, this initiative is not just about cards, it also aims to increase case and card compatibility. Now, instead of checking the dimensions one by one on manufacturer websites to see if a card will fit, you can make your job easier by looking at the “SFF-Ready” label.

Walker says he wants NVIDIA to do more to reduce the size of its partner cards. NVIDIA’s own Founders Edition cards are generally just two slots thick. However, Walker said he hopes more common card manufacturers will produce cards in this form factor.

walker, “Putting a 4080 in this form factor would require a lot of work and very deliberate design,” says. So, Nvidia plans to put more effort in this direction. Although NVIDIA’s new “SFF-Ready” initiative will not create a major revolution in small form factor cases, it will contribute to the spread of smaller gaming PCs.

It aims to make things easier for users by increasing graphics card and case compatibility. Additionally, only RTX 4070 or higher cards are included in this program, so low-performance cards do not fall into this category.

To summarize, this new initiative from Nvidia can help small gaming PCs become widespread. So what do you think about these new cards and cases? Don’t forget to share your comments with us…
