Frankfurt It’s a topic that affects many industries, but poses particular problems for the insurance industry: a lack of staff. There are too few skilled workers that insurers urgently need in many areas. “Despite the current economic concerns, the shortage of skilled workers remains a key challenge for the industry,” says Jürgen Grenz, head of the Index Group, which specializes in personnel market research.
The situation is likely to get worse: “On the one hand, the employees of the baby boomer generation will retire by the end of the decade,” explains Grenz. Given the low birth rates of recent decades, these would be difficult to replace. “On the other hand, the industry will need many bright minds for the digital transformation in the future, especially with IT skills.” Here, the insurers are in competition with other companies, which young people in particular often perceive as more attractive.
