Number of income millionaires in Germany is growing

Berlin The number of income millionaires in Germany has continued to rise. In 2018, almost 26,300 of all registered wage and income taxpayers in Germany had an income of at least one million euros, as the Federal Statistical Office announced on Tuesday using the latest available data. According to the Wiesbaden authority, that was a good 1,500 more than a year earlier.

According to the information, the main source of income for the majority of these people (15,500 or 59 percent) was a commercial enterprise. Another 5,200 (20 percent) derived their income mainly from dependent work, 4,000 (15 percent) from self-employed work.

“Other types of income only played a subordinate role, whereby income from capital assets can only be shown incompletely since the introduction of the withholding tax in 2009,” according to the statisticians.
