Berlin Mr. Ryan, Ukraine’s recapture of Cherson is considered a great success. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke of a “historic day” when the Russians withdrew to the eastern side of the Dnieper. What conclusions do you draw from taking the city?
Vladimir Putin’s annexation decree from last September failed, that is now finally certain. Russia is unable to secure all provinces as the decree intended. At the political level, this is increasing the pressure on Putin – especially from nationalist hardliners, who are expressing their criticism more and more openly.

From a military point of view, the success confirms Ukraine’s previous strategy. Precise missile attacks have gradually paralyzed Russian transport routes and their command and control centers, while the pressure has been kept up at the front through the deployment of various services. Further territorial gains are possible with this tactic.
