Berlin The winter may not be over yet, but with a view to the gas supply, major problems are no longer to be expected in Germany. However, things could get tight next winter if not enough gas is consistently saved. This is the result of the study “Monitoring the German Gas Balance”, which the consulting firm Prognos prepared for the Association of Bavarian Business (VBW).

In order to avoid a shortage, all sectors would have to reduce their gas consumption by more than 15 percent compared to the annual average values ​​for the years 2008 to 2021, according to the as yet unpublished study, which is available to the Handelsblatt. There is potential for households and businesses to lower the room temperature, and the industrial sector has a wide range of options that enable consumption reductions of more than 20 percent.
