New York’s New Mayor Eric Adams Wants to Enable Payments with Bitcoin

New York City’s new Mayor, Eric Adams, has announced plans to allow New York residents to be paid directly with bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as he seeks to transform the city into a hub surrounded by innovation.

After Miami Mayor Francis Suarez announced that he would receive his salary in bitcoin, New York Mayor Eric Adams also said that he would receive his first three salaries in bitcoin. Speaking to journalists in Puerto Rico while attending the Somos Puerto Rico Conference, Eric Adams reiterated his promise that he will receive his first three salaries in bitcoin.

During the talk, Eric Adams said:

‘We’re not playing games about it. New York has become a city that people fear and think negatively about. This was a city that was ahead in many respects. New York City has to become the center of biotechnology, we have to be the center of all these new technologies.’

Adams said that he will convert to bitcoin after receiving his salary, as the bitcoin payment system does not yet have a built-in method. He also stated that they are investigating various mechanisms to integrate the payment system with bitcoin so that New York residents can conveniently receive their salary payments in bitcoin.

While still running in the elections in June, Adams “I promise the residents of New York. Our city will be the hub of cybersecurity, self-driving cars, drones and bitcoins.” he said.

The states of Miami and Tennissie, which create an optimistic competitive environment in accepting Bitcoin, have also made a name for themselves with the steps they have taken in the past months.
