New way to fight flies: Drones

Some countries (usually hot, humid regions) have a very tough fight against mosquitoes, which are a nuisance to humanity. These pests not only surround us, they suck your blood and carry viruses that routinely kill many people. Some local governments have started using drones to defeat the fly scourge.

Florida’s Broward County recently began using drones to spray mosquitoes in hard-to-reach places. Local governments frequently spray mosquito breeding grounds to kill the larvae of dangerous, disease-carrying insects.

Until recently, teams had to be sent to the swampy environment of Florida, where Aedes mosquitoes (also known as “Yellow fever mosquitoes”) lay eggs. Now, Broward officials can send drones to get the job done without the need for humans.

Until now, crews had been dealing with a single area for days and it was inaccessible by truck. It was possible to reach by sinking into the mud and using a cleaver to pass behind the bushes.

Using drones to fight mosquitoes is not actually new. In 2013, Florida used drones to find waterholes where mosquitoes could breed in large numbers.

These new drones attack insects directly and are doing the same in some other locations in the US. Can a similar practice be implemented in Turkey? What do you think about the use of drones for fly spraying? Please don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
