Berlin Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) and Federal Building Minister Klara Geywitz (SPD) want to massively accelerate climate protection in the building sector. “The installation of heating systems based exclusively on fossil fuels – especially gas and oil heating – will no longer be permitted from 2024,” says a draft of the Ministry of Economic Affairs for the reform of the Building Energy Act (GEG). According to the Handelsblatt information, the Ministry of Construction has agreed in principle. The draft is available to the Handelsblatt.
The energy transition in the heating sector is central to achieving climate policy goals and reducing dependence on fossil energy imports. “More than a third of the total energy requirement in Germany is used to heat our buildings and to supply hot water,” says the 92-page paper.
