New plant for electric brand Scout – Volkswagen’s big pick-up bet starts

The Scout facility represents the largest investment in South Carolina history.

Columbia For Scott Keogh it is a “magical moment” when the head of the new VW subsidiary Scout seals the construction of a factory in the USA. “It’s time for America to dream big again. And build great things again,” Keogh calls out in front of the South Carolina state government building.

The members of parliament, including Governor Henry McMaster, have gathered in front of the State Capitol in Columbia to seal a future deal with Keogh. A Volkswagen plant is to be built not far from the city.

Big is the dream and big is the price tag attached to the Scout brand. The VW Group is investing two billion dollars in the factory. In addition, there are further millions invested by suppliers. From the end of 2026, 200,000 Scout pickups and SUVs are to be produced here every year, and 4,000 jobs created.
