Nature reserve control force: We are the new Hamburg rangers | Regional

Hamburg – The rush for a job in the environmental agency has rarely been so great!

Hundreds of applications had come in for a job that didn’t even exist before: nature conservation ranger!

On Thursday, Senator Jens Kerstan (55, Greens) visited his new control group, which is responsible for keeping order and cleanliness in the 36 nature reserves in Hamburg. Ten men and women, two goals: to protect the biotopes from inconsiderate visitors and to provide a lot of information about what constitutes the sensitive nature reserves.

Wild campers, campfire laps, rubbish forgetfuls or mountain bikers who build their own routes – all of this is forbidden, but is done again and again. For the rangers, this means: work in shifts and on weekends – equipped with a flashlight, binoculars, multitool and tool box in the e-car.

Permanent fresh air instead of office stink! They all come from a wide variety of professions – from biologists to carpenters. Through a course they are now certified nature and landscape conservationists.

With the license to go for a walk!
