National security strategy on the home stretch

Berlin The federal government has agreed on essential points on the content of the national security strategy. The Handelsblatt learned this from coalition circles. According to this, there was agreement on the four biggest points of contention among the decisive, security-related departments. As the Handelsblatt found out, the strategy should therefore go into final departmental coordination as early as next week.

A spokesman for the Foreign Office initially did not comment on a request from the Handelsblatt. The National Security Strategy is the first in the history of the Federal Republic. It is being drawn up under the auspices of the Federal Foreign Office, but is a cross-departmental strategy that is supported by the entire federal government. It is intended to determine how Germany can ensure its own security as well as the security of Europe and the world in the face of growing global challenges.

The plan was actually to present the strategy at the Munich Security Conference in mid-February. However, by then the federal government had not been able to agree on four key points.
