The company Neuralink, founded by Elon Musk, has apparently received the green light from the US health authority FDA for a first human clinical trial. “This is the result of the incredible work of the Neuralink team in close collaboration with the FDA and represents an important first step that will one day enable our technology to help many people,” Neuralink tweeted on Thursday (local time).
Recruitment for the study has not yet started, but more information will be announced soon, the company said. Neuralink is developing a brain implant that it claims could cure neurological diseases and enable paralyzed people to walk again.
The company’s application for a human clinical trial was initially denied by the FDA in early 2022 over concerns about the implant’s safety. The authority has not yet responded to requests for comment on the approval of the study.
