Berlin Shortly before the end of the year, some households received unpleasant news from their energy suppliers: Just before the end of the prescribed period of six weeks on December 31, many suppliers announced that they would increase their electricity and gas tariffs from January. And they have it all.

Rheinenergie from Cologne increases the electricity price by 77 percent – and that is almost moderate. In Leipzig and Munich, the basic supply tariffs for electricity will increase by a whopping 110 percent. In Leipzig, a kilowatt hour will soon cost 52.12 cents, and in Munich it will cost as much as 61.89 cents.
