Frankfurt In the Handelsblatt ranking 2021 of the scientifically most productive economics faculties in Germany, the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich claims first place, which it conquered in 2019. The gap to the front runner in all German-speaking countries, the University of Zurich, has decreased somewhat, but remains considerable (the entire ranking can be downloaded here).

The publications in good specialist journals from the past ten years are included in the ranking, with more points being awarded for the more respected journals. The Handelsblatt ranking was created by the research institutes KOF (ETH Zurich) and DICE (University of Düsseldorf). It is supported by the Verein für Socialpolitik.

The Zurich university – and the Swiss universities in general – have very good financial resources, also thanks to high third-party funding. The high Swiss salaries for scientists help to attract and retain talent. Four Swiss universities are among the top ten in the Germany, Austria, Switzerland (DACH) region.
