On February 6, Turkey experienced the biggest earthquake disaster in its history. The 7.7 magnitude earthquake that occurred in 10 provinces centered in Kahramanmaraş and then the 7.6 earthquake at noon on the same day caused wounds that are difficult to heal. Schools started today in 71 provinces that were not affected by the earthquake. Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer announced that education was suspended until 1 March in 10 provinces affected by the earthquake. With today’s post, changes were made to these times.

Schools will start on March 1 in Adana, Diyarbakır, Şanlıurfa and Kilis, which are in the first category. In the second category, Osmaniye and Gaziantep, schools will open on 13 March. Schools in Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, Malatya and Adıyaman, which were in the third category and suffered major injuries from the earthquake, were postponed until 27 March.

Özer had previously said that there would be no continuation requirement at all levels in the earthquake zones in the 2nd period. After the earthquake, the Minister announced that students (parents) living in the region can be transferred to schools in the provinces of their choice, if they wish.
