Minister of Construction Geywitz at the Handelsblatt Energy Summit

According to the EU Commission, buildings are responsible for around 40 percent of energy consumption and around a third of greenhouse gases in the EU. For this reason, the Council of Member States last year called for only climate-neutral residential buildings to be built from 2030 onwards. In addition, minimum standards for energy efficiency are to be set for existing houses and apartments.

The federal government also sees the construction and housing industry as an important building block in order to be able to achieve the goal of being climate-neutral by 2045. One focus is the heat transition. In short: Away from heating with fossil fuels towards, for example, heat pumps, solar/geothermal energy and district heating. But even if the federal government, together with representatives of industry, has decided in an alliance to install 500,000 new heat pumps per year from 2024, many questions still remain unanswered. What about the renovation of old buildings? Are the legal framework conditions sufficient? Are the funding measures really targeted?

At the Handelsblatt Energy Summit 2023, Klara Geywitz, Federal Minister for Housing, Urban Development and Construction, will speak about these and other questions and, above all, about possible answers. Join us live here on Wednesday from 1 p.m.:
