Berlin Millions of privately insured people will receive mail from their health insurance companies in the coming weeks. At the end of the year, they inform their customers what contributions they will have to pay in the coming year.

In 2021 there was a sharp increase in health insurance contributions, averaging 8.1 percent; in 2022 it was still 4.1 percent.

The contributions will also increase in 2023, but significantly less than in the past two years – by an average of three percent, as the Association of Private Health Insurance Companies (PKV) informed the Handelsblatt. However, this is still above the ten-year average of 2.6 percent. The average contribution of currently 535 euros per month increases to around 551 euros.

This does not include the contributions for civil servants, which are significantly lower. Slightly more than one in three of the 8.7 million fully insured customers is affected by an increase. In individual cases, the jump is likely to be significantly higher and even in double digits.
