Microsoft’s GitHub Reloads Tornado Cash Code!

In August, the sanctions decision of the US Treasury Department OFAC bureau against Tornado Cash had a great impact in the crypto money market and Tornado Cash associated with Ethereum addresses were blacklisted.

While the USA evaluated this move as an important step in the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing, users stated that this decision caused a great deal of censorship on open source codes.

While Tornado Cash sanctions continue, many exchanges have also blocked money transfers from wallets associated with Tornado Cash.

GitHub also joined this wave by removing Tornado Cash codes from its site. However, this decision was overturned.

GitHub, owned by Microsoft, lifted the ban on Tornado Cash yesterday and restored it in “read-only” mode.

GitHub’s move comes after the US Treasury Department stated that the sharing of Tornado Cash’s code is not within the scope of the ban.

In read-only mode, users will only be able to open and read the code, but will not be able to change it or integrate it into a platform.
