Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, one of the most popular social media platforms, faced the Irish Data Protection Commission. So much so that the company has been trapped by the privacy regulatory agency. On the other hand, the dimensions of the possible outcomes do not look very encouraging.

Meta, formerly Facebook, has faced Europe many times. The company, which recently faced Ireland’s privacy regulator, is under heavy accusations. The Commission informed its European counterparts on Thursday that it will block Facebook owner Meta from sending user data from Europe to the US.

The artificial intelligence supported NLLB project, developed by Meta, has 200 language support as of today.
This can have serious consequences for both Meta and platform users. In the draft, it was stated that strict decisions would be taken to prevent Meta from transferring large amounts of data to the USA. Meta warned that such a decision, if approved by the European national group of data protection regulators, would lead to the blocking of Facebook and Instagram services in Europe, and emphasized joint action. A Meta spokesperson made the following statements regarding the issue.
Subject to review by the European Data Protection Authorities, this draft resolution concerns a conflict between EU and US law that is in the process of being resolved. The new legal framework will allow for the continued transfer of data across borders, and we expect this framework to allow us to keep families, communities and economies connected.
In 2020, the European Court of Justice canceled the data flow agreement between the EU and the USA, called the Privacy Shield. The reason for the cancellation decision was the use of Meta and many other US companies to transfer personal data to the USA.
