Dusseldorf, Berlin, Frankfurt At Thyssen-Krupp, the discussion about the future of the steel division has been rekindled. CEO Martina Merz favors the sale or spin-off of the division. According to information from group circles, a large European financial investor has already contacted the board of directors to explore joint options. In the group, however, the voices are increasing, but to hold on to the division.

In the past, all plans to leave the steel business had failed, and now it is time to accept that a separation makes no sense, several high-ranking executives and employee representatives told the Handelsblatt. “Steel should therefore remain the core,” says one manager. This would also give the company a direction. “That would be important because we don’t have a strategy.”
