Tehran, Riyadh For years there was bitter hostility between Iran and Saudi Arabia, now the two states are approaching each other. As a first step, the foreign ministers of the rival countries want to meet, as reported by the state media of both countries on Friday. Accordingly, high-ranking government officials signed a corresponding agreement at a meeting in China.

The United States has traditionally been a close partner of Saudi Arabia, but dissonance has increased in recent years. Washington is to blame for the Saudi-Iranian rapprochement, said an observer in Riyadh. Biden is “hostile” to the Saudis and is now receiving the receipt for this.

China, on the other hand, is emerging stronger. The Iran-Saudi deal was negotiated in Beijing with Chinese mediation. Both Tehran and Riyadh officially thanked the People’s Republic for the good offices.

Riyadh and Tehran now want to settle their differences through dialogue. Both countries also agreed to reopen the embassies within two months.
