Mastercard wants to accept Bitcoin as a means of payment

There are still no hardware devices in the supermarket to accept bitcoins: Mastercard therefore has to convert crypto-coins into an ordinary currency during the transaction.

Dusseldorf Crypto fans have long dreamed of a digital, decentralized currency as an alternative to dollars, euros, etc. In 2010, a programmer paid for the first time with Bitcoin: He bought two pizzas for 10,000 Bitcoin. Eleven years have passed since then. And cryptocurrencies are mainly known as investments and speculative objects. Bitcoin in particular experienced a sensational soaring last year: the two pizzas from back then would be worth almost 600 million dollars today.

However, you can only pay with crypto coins in some online shops and occasionally in hip big city restaurants – more for marketing than practical reasons. However, payment service providers such as Mastercard, Visa and PayPal want to open their systems to digital currencies soon. In one fell swoop, millions of merchants could then also accept crypto currency instead of euros at the checkout.
