Munich, Dusseldorf The process of the century begins with a considerable delay. At the planned start at 9 a.m., the majority of media representatives are still standing in front of the entrance area of the courtroom.
The interest in the process of a group that four years ago was still the most valuable German financial company is too great. And the former Wirecard CEO Markus Braun, who at the time, as its major shareholder, had a share value of more than one billion euros in Wirecard shares.
“We wanted the public to be able to participate as well,” Judge Markus Födisch explains the delay of almost three quarters of an hour.
The criminal trial against Braun and two co-defendants begins this Thursday at the Munich Regional Court. The spectacular bankruptcy of the payment service provider is one of the biggest scandals in German economic history.
