Berlin The Federal Government will fill the vacant posts in the Council of Economic Experts with the economists Ulrike Malmendier and Martin Werding.

Both have now agreed and should be appointed on Wednesday in the upcoming meeting of the Federal Cabinet, as the Handelsblatt learned from government circles.

Malmendier fills the post of Lars Feld, who had to leave the council of experts a year and a half ago. The economist teaches at the US University of Berkeley and her research focuses on behavioral economics and money markets. She is considered an expert on the subject of inflation.

Malmendier was proposed by the Federal Chancellery a few weeks ago. Since then, however, she had been negotiating with the federal government on how she could hold the post from the United States. It is also said to have been about adjustments in the way the Council works.
