Washington According to an insider, French President Emmanuel Macron has criticized the American localization regulations and subsidies of the so-called Inflation Reduction Act as “super aggressive”. In a meeting with US officials, Macron said the anti-inflation law was “super aggressive” towards European companies, a participant on condition of anonymity told Reuters on Wednesday.
Macron’s office declined to confirm the comment, which was first reported by French news agency AFP.
European leaders, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, have criticized the legislative package signed by US President Joe Binden in August. It provides massive subsidies for US-made products and, in their view, penalizes non-US companies. In addition, the European Union (EU) fears that European companies could relocate their production overseas for this reason.
