Lufthansa Technik boss: “We are extending technical life”

The CEO of the Lufthansa subsidiary contradicts the thesis that in terms of climate protection it makes sense to replace all aircraft with modern ones as quickly as possible.

Hamburg Johannes Bussmann is not worried about the future of his company. “We want to grow and believe that this is also possible,” said the head of the maintenance specialist Lufthansa Technik to the Handelsblatt. And referred to the strong fleet growth at airlines such as the Hungarian Wizz Air, a customer of the Lufthansa subsidiary.

But it is not just the airlines’ expansion plans that make the CEO of the Lufthansa subsidiary confident. It is also the growing importance of sustainability in aviation. “Our business model is to extend technical life,” says Bußmann. And adds: “With this we are reducing the primary energy consumption in order to manufacture a new aircraft.”
