Frankfurt Anyone who wants to get a feel for the state of affairs in Europe’s largest airline group should watch Carsten Spohr’s performances. The Lufthansa boss is back to his old self: self-confident and self-assured. This can be felt with the planned entry into the Italian ITA, the successor airline to Alitalia. “It will be very difficult for the ITA against us,” Spohr threatens possible rivals in the bidding competition for ITA.

The manager would like to declare the crisis over when the shareholders meet for the annual general meeting on May 10th. But he can’t. “We are in the last phase of the pandemic,” says Spohr.

A diplomatic formulation that is due on the one hand to the fact that the pandemic is not over yet and the next crisis is here with the Ukraine war. On the other hand, the Lufthansa boss does not want to let the optimism for the comeback after two difficult years be taken away.
