Lindner’s chief adviser: “I’m not a prevention economist”

As an honorary advisor to Federal Finance Minister Lindner, the economist wants to continue to voice objective criticism when the federal government makes wrong decisions in his opinion.

Berlin On Monday, Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) appointed economist Lars Feld as his chief adviser. This is a sign “that the Ministry of Finance stands by solid state finances,” Feld told the Handelsblatt. “If economic policy proposals lead to protectionism or a waste of money, I will address this critically,” he said.

From his point of view, Feld’s desire for a consolidation of state finances does not contradict Lindner’s statement that as “enabling minister” he wants to implement as many projects of the traffic light coalition as possible. It goes well together, says Feld. “I am not a preventive economist, but try to help achieve the existing economic policy goals within the framework of the financial possibilities.”
