revote Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach expects corona vaccinations to start quickly with the approved new preparation, which is adapted to virus variant BA.5. “We will probably make the vaccine available as early as next week,” said the SPD politician on Tuesday on the sidelines of a visit to Israel in Rechovot near Tel Aviv.
The first doses of the vaccine from Biontech are to be delivered to pharmaceutical wholesalers next Monday and Tuesday (September 19/20), according to a letter from Lauterbach to all service providers of the vaccination campaign, such as doctors. According to this, Germany should initially receive around 19 million cans by October 3rd. Exact delivery schedules are still to be coordinated.
“I’m glad that this vaccine has now been approved as expected,” said Lauterbach. “So we have two very good adapted vaccines that we can offer and will therefore be able to vaccinate everyone who wants to be vaccinated in the next few weeks.”
On Monday, the European Commission approved the other vaccine from the manufacturers Biontech and Pfizer, which is adapted to the Omicron sub-lines BA.4 and BA.5. The vaccination is recommended for people over the age of twelve as a booster, said the EU medicines authority Ema. A new vaccine adapted to variant BA.1 was recently approved.

Lauterbach commented on the conclusion of a four-day visit to Israel after a visit to the Weizmann Research Institute in Rechovot. “Israel shows what a country can do when it spends heavily on science and research,” he said. This was shown by spectacular results in many areas, such as cancer treatment or the development of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
