Lambrecht successor and tanks for the Ukraine – Chancellor in a double dilemma

Berlin Chancellor Olaf Scholz has promised a “double boom” to relieve the citizens of Germany of the consequences of the Ukraine war. But in terms of security policy, the head of government is currently in a double dilemma: Because department head Christine wants to throw Lambrecht down, he has to quickly fill the ejection seat in the Defense Ministry with someone who has more competence and tact than Lambrecht. And he must bring the traffic light coalition to a unified position on the battle tank issue before the Ukraine contact group meets again in Ramstein at the end of the week to coordinate further support services.

The promised turning point in the Bundeswehr is unlikely to happen any faster if a Lambrecht successor first has to familiarize himself or herself with the department and demonstrate leadership skills. After all, it is to be hoped that she or he will be more interested in the office than her predecessor.
