KVKK Announced: Data Breach at Akbank!

The Personal Data Protection Authority (KVKK) shared an important announcement regarding Akbank, one of Turkey’s largest banks, today. In the public announcement, Akbank TAŞ suffered a data breach specified.

While the e-mail address variable should be written dynamically during the writing of the code of a project, the breach in the data breach notification reported to the board by Akbank. as a result of static typing reported to have occurred. In addition to these, things such as how many people were affected and what information it contained were also included in the announcement.

5,847 bank customers were affected by the breach

According to the announcement of KVKK, 5,847 bank customers affected. If the affected personal data is; Name and surname, Turkish Identity Number, customer number, Tax Administrationretail banking service contract number and date, account number, Branch name, currency code, IBAN, Name of the product, interest rate, opening and due date with the account opening amount. Electronic passbooks belonging to some customers whose accounts were opened between 27.08.2022 and 18.10.2022 were sent to 20 legal entity customers (in different numbers for each), who are also Bank customers by mistake, instead of these customers,

5,847 bank customers were affected by the breach,

Personal data affected by the breach; within the categories of identity, customer transaction and finance; name and surname, TR identity number, customer number, tax office, individual banking service contract number and date, account number, branch name, foreign currency code, IBAN, product name, interest rate, opening and due date and account opening amount information,

It is stated that the relevant persons affected by the violation can get information from the akbank.com website and the phone number 4442525.“

According to the KVKK’s statement, the investigation on the subject continues.
