Jean-Kevin Augustin: How Leeds reached an agreement with RB Leipzig | Sports

RB Leipzig finally has clarity! After almost two and a half years of transfer problems with England club Leeds United about the transfer fee for ex-striker Jean-Kevin Augustin (25/now FC Basel), the topic is now over.

A good four weeks after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) dismissed the Premier League club’s appeal, it announced an “amicable settlement” to the dispute on Monday evening. But what does it exactly mean?

According to BILD information, RB does not waive a cent of the 21 million euro purchase obligation transfer fee and the around 340,000 euro default interest. However, Leipzig is said to have been accommodating with the payment modalities.

Augstin was loaned to the then second division club in January 2020 with a purchase obligation in the event of promotion. Leeds didn’t want to pay because Corona hadn’t confirmed promotion by the regular end of the season (June 30).

What followed was a year-long dispute in which the Frenchman himself has long since stopped playing at Leeds. Via Nantes (11 games) he ended up at FC Basel (10 games/3 goals) in the summer.

Interesting: Leipzig’s new sports boss cannot go shopping in his first transfer period with the 21 million euros. According to BILD information, the money has already been “spent” and planned for in the last transfer periods.
