Japan’s stock market could particularly benefit from the price slide

Tokyo Japan is currently very popular with US institutional investors. Robert Feldman experienced this first-hand on his investor trip through the USA. “My schedule was full,” says the economist from the Japanese broker Morgan Stanley MUFG. “That’s not usually the case.”

Japan is the only major industrial nation that has not yet given up its negative interest rate policy in the fight against inflation. This gives the stock market an important advantage, especially in the current market situation. “Global investors are currently favoring the Japanese market,” observes Feldman, one of Japan’s best-known foreign economists.

Analysts are correspondingly optimistic. Sean Darby, chief strategist at investment house Jefferies, expects Tokyo’s leading index to be 15 percent above the current level by the end of the year. Financial stocks in particular have good prospects.
