Tokyo According to official information, Japan destroyed the new launch vehicle on its maiden flight. The second stage rocket had failed to ignite. For the first time in three decades, the government in Tokyo sent a new medium-range missile into space on Tuesday. According to official information, the 57 meter high H3 carrier rocket from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries lifted off from the Tanegashima spaceport of the Japanese space agency Jaxa. The launch had already been canceled last month due to an engine failure. On board was ALOS-3, a land-based disaster management satellite designed to use an experimental infrared sensor to detect ballistic missile launches from North Korea.

Against the background of rising tensions in the Indo-Pacific, Japan is arming itself massively as part of a strategic reorientation. Japan’s military budget is the third largest in the world behind the US and China. North Korea threatened Japan with military reactions after its multi-billion dollar armament.
