Berlin The mafia’s secrecy can still be relied on, but the Italian mafia is still under great pressure after the arrest of godfather Messina Denaro. “The arrest of Messina Denaro is an important, a great success for the Italian constitutional state: after all, he is the last important boss of Cosa Nostra,” emphasizes Francesco Forgione.

The former president of the parliamentary anti-mafia commission in Rome is considered one of the most accomplished mafia experts in the country and has written several books on organized crime in Italy. The end of the super godfather’s long flight will cause great uncertainty in the Cosa Nostra and possibly a fight for the successor.

“At the same time, of course, it leaves you speechless that Messina Denaro was able to lead a normal life in his closest home for years without the hundreds of investigators who were assigned to him noticing anything,” emphasizes Forgione.
