An ITA Airways jet lands in Eindhoven

The successor company to the insolvent Alitalia could soon belong to the Lufthansa Group.

Frankfurt It’s a bit reminiscent of the US film comedy “Groundhog Day”. For days, Italian newspapers have been reporting again that Lufthansa is about to join ITA, the successor company to the insolvent Alitalia. In the past few years, this news had come up again and again – but the forecasts have never been fulfilled so far.

According to information from the Handelsblatt from industry circles, this time it seems to be different. A decree recently passed by Italy’s new government points between the lines to a buyer for ITA: Lufthansa.

The decree was passed shortly before Christmas by the right-wing government under Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and published in the Official Journal at the beginning of the year. This allows the government to formally obtain new offers for the state airline.
