Berlin, Dusseldorf Electricity and gas suppliers are increasing their prices across the board. They often have good reasons for this: In many cases, their procurement costs have risen sharply in recent months. They have to pay significantly more for wholesale electricity or gas – and pass the price increases on to their customers. But are the price increases always fully justified?
In any case, the opportunity seems good to increase prices more than necessary: With the price brakes for electricity and gas, which are said to have passed the Bundestag and Bundesrat by mid-December, the costs for 80 percent of consumption have dropped to 40 cents per kilowatt hour for electricity and twelve Cents capped on gas. The federal government pays the difference to the actual price.
