Embarking on The Hermit Quest
As you begin your adventure in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, the blacksmith from Tachov assigns you the intriguing task of retrieving a sword from a mysterious hermit. This quest, known as The Hermit, unfolds into a captivating journey filled with choices that will test your moral compass. Here’s your comprehensive guide to navigating this quest successfully.
Side quests play an essential role in KCD2, often leading to engaging storylines and unexpected twists. The Hermit quest is no exception, offering you the chance to acquire a unique sword that could be pivotal for Semine’s wedding. However, be prepared for a challenge, as the hermit isn’t inclined to relinquish his sword easily, especially with whispers of supernatural occurrences surrounding him.
Step-by-Step Guide to Completing The Hermit Quest
Your first step is to converse with the innkeeper, Betty. She provides valuable insights into the hermit’s background. Make sure to explore all dialogue options thoroughly and resist the urge to confront the hermit too soon, as he will simply drive you away. Afterward, speak with Bara to gather more information from the locals, then follow the quest markers to continue your investigation. A conversation with the shepherd, Stanislav, will direct you to search for a black horse.
The black horse can be found at the Abandoned Camp, situated east of the Apollonia road. Check your map for the precise coordinates. Once you’ve located and examined the horse, make your way to the hermit’s camp.
The hermit’s camp lies directly west of the Water Point in Apollonia. When you spot the stream crossing the road, turn west and trace the watercourse until you find a path leading to the hermit’s cabin. Refer to your map for exact positioning. Upon arrival, exhaust all dialogue options and press for more information. The hermit, introducing himself as Konrad—a knight of the Red Star Crusaders—will share that his friend, the original hermit Ambroise, has passed away. He agrees to reveal the sword’s location if you deliver a message for him.
After you fulfill Konrad’s request, you’ll encounter other knights of the Red Star Crusaders who will urge you to assist them in eliminating Konrad. Accepting their proposition will keep the quest moving forward, yet you still have the option to save Konrad if you choose. Approach him cautiously and listen until he finishes speaking; otherwise, he may become hostile. Here, you must decide whether to side with Konrad or the knights.
If Konrad meets an untimely end before disclosing the sword’s location, don’t fret—his journal is tucked away upstairs in his cabin. Simply move three bags to reach it and take a moment to read its contents.
Once you’ve gathered the necessary information, head west, ascend the hill, and locate the grave as indicated on your map. Retrieve the sword and return to the blacksmith in Tachov for reforging before proceeding to the wedding, pushing the main storyline forward.
Making the Choice: Save or Betray Konrad?
Choosing to save Konrad in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is generally viewed as the noble decision. His journal reveals a gripping truth: he uncovered the murder of the archbishop, implicating the grand master Zdenyek. To escape, he had to eliminate two of his brothers. Seeking refuge with Ambroise, he adopted his identity after Ambroise’s death to honor his friend’s last wish while eluding his hunters.
While saving Konrad is the morally sound choice, you have the freedom to play in a way that aligns with your gaming style. If you prefer a simpler route, aligning with the knights against him is an option. However, be aware that in my experience, the knights turned hostile post-battle and demanded my departure. You can also confront them to seize their equipment for sale, but be warned—the conflict can be quite challenging.
Whether you choose to obtain the sword’s location from Konrad or through his journal, you will find a way to complete The Hermit quest. Make the choice that best reflects your vision of Henry’s journey.
