He now paints an “immoral image,” the former president and currently incarcerated confessed in a court hearing conducted via video link while documenting his state of health.
These images were also leaked to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in whom Saakashvili has an important advocate.
“I believe that the Georgian government is trying to kill him,” said Zelenskiy, presenting the pictures during a press conference with Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen on Wednesday.
“First they poisoned him and now they’re killing him bit by bit,” added Zelensky. Because Saakashvili not only has supporters: he is considered a personal enemy of the Russian ruler Vladimir Putin.
