Investors are no longer quite so skeptical about stocks

Institutional investors remain defensively positioned.

Frankfurt One word is particularly common in the outlooks of fund houses and banks for the investment year 2023: defensive. It means that institutional investors are cautious and not taking too many risks amid uncertainties surrounding inflation, interest rate hikes and recession.

At the same time, however, the investment professionals assume that the situation will improve in the coming year. For example, Sonja Laud, chief investment strategist at Legal & General Investment Management, says: “We see 2023 as a transitional year – there is a lot of uncertainty in relation to the economic cycle.” According to Laud, the central bank Fed also offer interesting entry points for equities.
