In these cities, Germans earn the best abroad

Moving abroad can be good for your career – and for your wallet.

Dusseldorf Around four million Germans lived abroad in 2019, and tens of thousands are added every year. There are many reasons: “Ultimately, the overall package has to be right,” says sociologist Marcel Erlinghagen. In principle, however, the following applies: “It’s not the bitter or disappointed, but those who have already been successful in Germany and are now planning the next step in their career.”

In fact, abroad often offers Germans better career and earning opportunities. But in which country and in which city do German-speaking professionals have the best chance of finding a job? And where can they take home the most money?

To find out, the education portal Preply has now scrutinized 1.5 million job advertisements from all over the world. Starting from a list of more than 100 cities in 16 countries, the researchers searched for jobs in each location that required different language skills.
