Employees are attaching more and more importance to flexible work location and time arrangements. In view of urgent personnel bottlenecks, banks are also increasingly opening up to the idea of mobile work.

Berlin At the Berlin DKB, a regulation has been put in place that allows employees to work abroad for up to 30 days a year. Christian Liedtke, an expert for new work at the BayernLB subsidiary, calls it workation.

“We currently have a final general works agreement so that all employees can use it accordingly,” explained Liedtke in a DKB podcast. It enables all colleagues to work within the European Union.

A spokesman for the DKB explained to the Bloomberg news agency that a maximum of 30 days is the norm, but that longer periods are also conceivable under certain conditions. So far, the offer has been “very well received” by colleagues for this and the coming year.

Flexible job offers can be an argument for banks when recruiting new employees. Many institutes have problems finding suitable candidates for certain jobs. Bank bosses who have warned of a shortage of skilled workers and vacancies include those from LBBW and KfW. Although the industry as a whole is cutting jobs, it posted almost 30,000 jobs in Germany in the third quarter alone, according to data from the Berlin-based HR specialist Index Gruppe.

According to Liedtke, with a view to Germany, everyone at the DKB can “decide for themselves and in consultation with the team whether they work in the work environment or somewhere else. During the pandemic, of course, you usually had this somewhere else in your home environment.” There is also a lot of flexibility when it comes to working hours. “We work 39 hours a week. How you actually work these hours is something you decide for yourself or coordinate with the team,” said Liedtke. A sting in the sense of a time recording does not take place.
