Terminal 3 is intended to make the largest German hub fit for future growth. For the time being, however, it will not be needed because of the long-term effects of the pandemic.

Frankfurt The number is sobering. In the first month of the current year, Frankfurt Airport counted 52 percent fewer passengers than in January 2019. But Stefan Schulte, CEO of the airport operator Fraport, does not want to lose confidence. “We are preparing for a strong summer, with passenger numbers approaching 70 percent of the pre-crisis level,” he told Handelsblatt.

If that were to happen, it would finally be good news for aviation again, but less good news for passengers – they will have to plan more time and patience in certain cases. “The truth also includes: In these volatile times, we cannot have the human resources available for 100 percent of the traffic,” said the aviation manager. Fraport will align personnel planning and shift schedules with demand as much as possible.
