Mr Klitschko, a year ago you described the situation in Kiev as follows: “The city is empty. When pedestrians are seen on the street, they look anxiously left and right. At the crossings there are blockade posts with concrete slabs and people in military uniforms with machine guns. We constantly hear powerful explosions, interspersed with sirens, day and night.” How does it look in your city today, after more than a year of war?
At the moment one can almost have the impression that there is peace. Spring is coming, there are many people on the streets. In March last year, only one million people stayed, now 3.6 million are living in Kiev again. The streets are jammed, cafes and restaurants are open. But one must not forget that a few hundred kilometers to the east and south there is a battle raging.
