When the citizens of the United States are called to the polls for the midterm elections on November 8, not everyone who would actually be entitled to vote will be able to cast their vote. Numerous hurdles make it difficult for voters in many states to exercise their right to vote.

It starts with the fact that in the USA traditionally elections are held on a Tuesday, i.e. on a regular working day. However, only 29 of the 50 states have a legal obligation for employers to let employees vote during work hours.

And even then, the time frame is very tight, sometimes only 30 minutes, and hardly enough to stand in the long queues that form in front of the polling stations in many places.

This severely limits the exercise of their right to vote, particularly for voters in states where early voting and absentee ballots are not possible.
