How Porsche wants to save the 911

Dusseldorf Porsche is inconceivable without the 911. The world-famous sports car is the nucleus of the car manufacturer founded 90 years ago. Other models such as the Cayenne SUV or the Taycan electric sports car were added much later.

But the 911 is in serious danger due to the shift to electromobility. Internal combustion engines could be banned as early as the middle of the next decade – that would be the end of the traditional Porsche model.

The Stuttgart-based Volkswagen subsidiary is looking for alternatives to prevent the discontinuation of 911 production. Chief Executive Officer Oliver Blume relies primarily on synthetically produced e-fuels that do not produce any new carbon dioxide when burned. A ban on the 911 could be circumvented.
