Berlin, Dusseldorf Many people in Germany dream of their own four walls. However, younger households in particular often lack the necessary equity. Politicians could easily help with this. Special depreciation, tax exemptions for real estate transfers or hire purchase – the list of possible steps is long.
The coalition agreement of the traffic light government states: “We want to enable more people in Germany to live in their own homes.” But little is happening.
The Baukindergeld was stopped prematurely at the end of 2022. New building subsidies for families will only be available again from June, albeit with stringent requirements. Builders are already unsettled by rising interest rates and construction costs.
Jürgen Michael Schick, President of the real estate association IVD, accuses politicians of having neglected the subject of property acquisition for years. He warns: “Thousands of households will slip into a pension gap when they retire because we have made it difficult for them to own property for years. Politics failed here.”
